This morning marked the end of a very special chapter here at Farncombe Down as we waved goodbye to Alflaila, who has now begun his journey to White Robe Lodge in New Zealand, where he will stand as a stallion.
It's never easy saying farewell to a horse who has given us so much, and Alflaila has certainly done that and more over the past four years. He arrived in the yard as a big, scopey colt and leaves as a Group-winning horse with real presence — both on the track and at home.
Alflaila has been a huge character around the yard, a horse full of personality who made sure his voice was heard and his presence felt every day. Horses like him don’t come around often — not just because of his talent, but because of the spirit and energy he brought into the place. He had a spark about him that you couldn’t help but admire, and the whole team here is incredibly grateful to have been part of his journey.
There are many people to thank for Alflaila's success, but a special mention must go to his groom and work rider, Selwen. The bond between them was clear to see, and I know today was particularly emotional for him. Selwen has looked after Alflaila with such care and dedication — their partnership was a real testament to the quiet, consistent work that goes on behind the scenes.
While we're sad to see him go, there’s also a sense of pride and excitement as he embarks on this next stage of his career. We’ll be following his progress closely from afar and look forward to seeing his influence passed on through his progeny in the years to come.

Thank you, Alflaila, for everything. You gave us great days on the racecourse, plenty of laughs at home, and memories we’ll cherish for a long time. You’ll be missed dearly by all of us here.
Wishing you all the best in your new role — we know you’ll take it on with the same class and character you’ve always shown.
— Owen
